10 Special Navratri Recipes
This is the time of the year when goddess Durga is embellished with bangles, flowers, kumkum and jewelled clothes. In the morning, prayers are offered which are accompanied with synchronised bells. The space is filled with aroma of pure butter. Navratri, which is one of the biggest Hindu festival is celebrated throughout the country with great pomp and show. Different avatars of Goddess Durga are worshipped for nine days. It is believed that Goddess Durga has nine incarnations. Each female deity means distinct power. Navratri means nine nights in which we worship Goddess Durga and fast is observed by most of the people. The festival is celebrated twice every year. Once, when the spring starts and at the start of autumn. During this period, most people don’t eat non-veg while many others don’t eat garlic and onion.
In most parts of North, western and central India, fast is observed on all nine days. Some people fast on first and last day of Navratri only. By fasting, we pay our gratitude to Goddess. It is unholy for Hindus to consume alcohol and non-vegetarian food. During the time of fasting, the people don’t eat meat, grains, onion, alcohol, garlic etc. According to Ayurveda, these food attract negative energies. They should be avoided if there is a seasonal change. Our bodies have low immunity at that time. We can use rock salt instead of regular salt. We can also use sendha namak as it is unprocessed and pure.
